I’ve been driving myself mad and a tad over the edge trying to find something other than the regular pellets that Harju is used to, that he would actually WANT to eat.
Because he is going to go under castration-surgery on 10th of August, it is important that he has something yummy and something he loves to eat straight after the ordeal.
Harju is a extremely picky eater. He doesn’t like lettuce, he doesn’t like carrots, he absolutely hates tomatoes and cellery. The only things he tends to eat – are pellets and dry hay. And usually even that when nobody is watching. I’ve seen him drink, I’ve seen him sleep, I’ve seen him play around with his toy ball. But never have I seen him touch fresh food in another manner than a nibble here and there, a snuff, puff and a grunt “I shall not eat this”.
We’ve tried to give him the same more natural type of dry foods that we feed to Lume & Skunkki other than the pellets, but NO, he won’t have anything but the pellets. Pellets, pellets pellets and more pellets a day. And I’m beginning to worry, because that isn’t exactly a large variety diet.
This second month having Harju live with us I’ve noticed, however, that he has a serious thing for sweet things. He absolutely loves the honey-flavored bunny-candies that I’ve started to give him a few times per week and he does like the occational slice of apple. So I’m thinking. Are apple-slices and honey-bunny candies something I can give to the doctor doing the surgery so she can give them to Harju when he wakes up? They aren’t exactly food, and that is what they asked me to bring with Harju.
I wonder. The regular bowl of pellets could be a rather dull ‘after surgery’ snack, then again, the doctor could stare at me funny if I tell her that: “Harju is a seriously picky and shy eater and he eats in secret if the company isn’t something he knows already. The only thing he eats willingly in the odd company are sweets. So thats what I brought with me.”
